Survivors, beneficiaries & contingent annuitants

Losing a loved one is never easy, and it can be difficult to settle your loved one’s estate while you’re still grieving. Our team at the Retirement Administration Service Center (RASC) is here to help explain any benefits available to you and to other survivors, beneficiaries or contingent annuitants.

What is the difference between a survivor, beneficiary and contingent annuitant?

As a survivor or beneficiary, you were identified by your loved one as someone who may be entitled to receive UCRP retirement benefits such as eligible survivor income, health and welfare, and a one-time death benefit following your loved one’s death.

As a contingent annuitant, you were identified by your loved one as someone who is entitled to receive benefit income following your loved one’s death.

What am I entitled to as a survivor, beneficiary or contingent annuitant?

As a survivor, beneficiary or contingent annuitant, you may be entitled to certain benefits, such as health insurance and monthly retirement income, that your loved one earned during their career at UC. Your benefits and eligibility may vary based on whether your loved one was an active or inactive member of the UC Retirement Plan (UCRP).

To review your benefits and identify steps you may need to take to receive your benefits, review guides to your benefits as a family member or beneficiary of an active UC employee, family member or beneficiary of a former UC employee or family member of a UC retiree and disabled member receiving UCRP income on UCnet.
